Season “Investing time in myself” · Episode 2

The year after

Repeat · 1 November 2026

From about 15 hours of sport a week to two or three. That's the year after the injury in one number.

For almost a year I didn't train properly. In that time, other routines quietly took over. I worked more, that brought in more money, and that's what the other season, "250K a year is enough", is about. I focused more on the business. That was exactly one of the main reasons I lost sight of my health.

In that one year I gained around 20 kilos. That makes training a lot harder again. I'm still not fully recovered from the injury; the last operation is in November 2026, hopefully. It feels like starting from zero.

People who have done sport since they were six often don't get this, and that's fine. For them, getting back in after a break is easier. It was never like that for me. I never did an intense sport until CrossFit came along and I built it into my life. When a year of that is missing and you can't do the things you were used to anymore, the way back is a lot harder. You have to be very careful.

I train anyway. A session here and there is getting easier now. It's not a routine yet, but it's a repetition again.

What I know about routines from this year: a routine doesn't disappear. It gets replaced, by the next one that happens to be there. For me it was work.

A year without training wasn't an empty year. It was full, just with other things.
